Hence, the impact of obstetric fistula on women, their families, health care, public health and clinical research is enormous and requires urgent attention (Kelly and Winter, 2009). For this to be addressed, a sound knowledge of the risk factors that predispose women in Nigeria to developing obstetric fistula needs an indebt understanding and this is the premise of this research study.
Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) are widely considered to be the optimal form of vascular access for haemodialysis incurring fewer complications, superior patency, better dialysis quality and a lower mortality than tunnelled central venous catheters (TCVCs).
Obstetric Fistula is an abnormal opening between the vagina and rectum resulting from prolonged and obstructed labour. It occurs mostly in developing countries and is a neglected maternal health issue in Nigeria. Women’s experiences of living with fistula often reflect gender inequities. This thesis assesses the evidence base for treatment of Crohn’s anal fistula, explores clinician preferences, and patient informational needs. Systematic literature review identified 27 trials of pharmacological therapies.Open Research Online Browse by Thesis Up a level. PhD thesis. The Open University. Fomes, Charles William (2001). Patients who develop kidney failure require renal replacement therapy (RRT) in order to survive. Renal transplantation is the best treatment but is often not forthcoming. Many patients therefore require haemodialysis treatment, for which a means of vascular access (VA) is necessary. There are substantial morbidity, mortality and cost benefits from using arteriovenous fistulae (AVF) rather than.Read More

Computational studies have shown that intimal hyperplasia is preferentially localized in regions of the fistula that are exposed to disturbed wall shear stresses. This thesis reports the development and testing of a novel, real-time controlled cone-and-plate device to assess the role of changes in shear stress induced by fistula creation on the activation state of endothelial cells and.Read More
